America, you’re not where I expected you to be in this moment. But, I still believe in your promise—the one stitched together by those who came before us, those who refused to accept that progress was merely an illusion.
For many of us, this isn’t the future we imagined, but there is power in knowing that our role here is not passive. We cannot lie down and accept that division and hate are the only way forward. We are the inheritors of a dream born out of struggle, built on courage, and carried forward by people who believed that justice wasn’t a privilege but a right—a right for all.
In moments like these, it’s tempting to turn away, to feel that the work is too heavy, that the divisions are too deep. But the legacy of those who stood before us teaches us that every inch forward matters. Our resilience, our faith in each other, is what makes this country more than borders and laws. It makes us a place where hope, even when fragile, can spark a future no one thought possible.
As Marie Curie once said, “Nothing in life is to be feared; it is only to be understood.” If fear and despair threaten to pull us under, then let’s meet them with understanding and action. There is strength in facing even the hardest truths, and power in knowing we are not the first to struggle—as it gives us an opportunity to bridge forward.
Yes, it’s hard. It’s so freaking hard. Yes, it’s exhausting. So today, let’s make space to feel all of the emotions we’ve been carrying—some for days, some for months, and many for years. But let’s not lose sight of the dream we’ve inherited, a dream worth protecting. As long as we’re here, we are the keepers of that promise—to build, to lift each other, and to believe that this American experiment, as imperfect as it may be, is still capable of greatness.
I still believe in the dream of America. And I believe it is the responsibility of all of us to keep it.
